Gladstone Schools partners with the Chinese government’s Hanban agency and the Confucius Classroom Program at Portland State University to provide instruction in Chinese language and culture. The program is funded by China, with instruction from native Mandarin speakers.
In the 2019-20 school year, Mr. Fei Song will provide trimester-long Mandarin language and culture classes at Gladstone High School including Chinese I, Chinese II, and Chinese III.
“This growing program is the next step in building a bridge to our sister school, Middle School Number 89 in Xi’an, China,” explained Superintendent Bob Stewart, who traveled to China in spring 2014. “Gladstone’s mission is Growing Great People, and part of that work is preparing children for a global workforce. We are proud that Gladstone is one of very few schools in the area to offer this program.”
