For Kraxberger sixth graders, Outdoor School has been a coming-of-age experience for generations. Blending hands-on science learning with camp traditions, students turn nature into their classroom for a fun and memorable week.

“Kraxberger’s Outdoor School Program has been taking place at Twin Rocks Friends Camp for most of its 43 years,” said Outdoor School Director Kerry Nugent. “We run seven different field studies with most taught by our Kraxberger teachers. We also provide our own recreation activities and put on a great campfire every evening.”

Each student tackles field studies on beavers, shark dissection, environmental footprints, plants, survival skills, community building, and tide pool creatures.

“I loved the sand castle challenge, beach walk, campfire skits, and the friendship circle before bed,” said student Kourtney Amato. “I will hold these memories forever.”

Her classmate Evelynn Gheen agreed. “My counselors were amazing, the recreation choices were great, and the food was delicious. We truly didn’t want to leave.”
