Gladstone High School's Exabyte Robotics competed at the Vex World Championships in Dallas Texas from April 24-28. Our final ranking for the season was 66th out of more than 13,000 teams in the world.
We competed with teams from all over the world, with representation from almost every continent. GHS seniors Ben Lau and Jonathan Shaw said the robotics team’s dedication was key to its high standing worldwide.
“We succeeded through our perseverance and critical thinking skills to constantly improve the design of our robot,” Shaw said.
Lau added, “For several hours after school each day we committed to finding flaws in our design and correcting them.”
Lau is heading to Oregon State University to study mechanical engineering, and Shaw will be getting his associate’s degree in chemical engineering at Clackamas Community College. Next up they’re both planning to teach a summer camp to get more students interested in robotics.
