Staff and students at Gladstone High School's Youth Transitions program celebrated a successful planting season on May 30 by donating leftover plants to the Oregon Food Bank and the Gladstone Center for Children & Families. The program made $600 through a plant sale using seeds that they started in the GHS greenhouse. Some of the sunflower and herb starts were planted as well in GHS's courtyard for enjoying through next fall.
McLoughlin Boulevard's Ace Hardware donated soil and seeds for our program. We planted veggies and herbs in our courtyard to grow for the culinary class. We also had plenty of plants to donate to the Gladstone Food Pantry. Alex Van Pelt, the food pantry manager, was thrilled to have the high school donate plants to distribute to the community.
