Gladstone School District will benefit from a federal grant to increase our capacity to address factors related to youth substance use. We’re working with Oregon City Together and its fiscal agent, Oregon City School District 62, to manage $366,602 in grant funding annually for five years. “We welcome the opportunity to work with our neighbors in Oregon City to help all youth thrive,” said Gladstone Superintendent Jeremiah Patterson. Leaders in both school districts are looking forward to the grant allowing for the creation of a data-driven prevention system that will allow for a larger reach. Since research shows that prevention should start early, we see this as important work for the benefit of students and families. “This grant will fund implementing a Communities That Care system that involves the Oregon City and Gladstone school districts as well as many other community stakeholders,” said Michele Stroh, coalition chair and school board member. “It will take us to a new level of prevention effectiveness.” Our federal partners at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration are funding an evidence-based coalition-based prevention system that uses a public health approach to prevent youth problems and help young people thrive. Oregon City Together is currently hiring a coordinator to help facilitate this program.
